Created in collaboration with the Edmonton Wayfinding Society team, this wayfinding prototype was launched for the Designing Downtown event in October 2013. Using successful wayfinding systems in other cities as inspiration, we mapped Edmonton’s downtown core with building landmarks and transit centres. A 5-minute walking radius was used to encourage pedestrian traffic and to help users rethink walking as a mode of transportation. Accessibility for inclusive audiences was a key objective during the design process.
Overall, the project was successful in establishing an ongoing partnership with the City of Edmonton, as our group is now considered a key stakeholder in the city’s new wayfinding project and process.
